As a state-assisted university, UMW receives less than 25 percent of its operating budget from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fund for Mary Washington, the University’s unrestricted annual fund, “closes the gap” between state and tuition dollars and the actual cost of providing an excellent liberal arts and sciences education. Donors’ gifts to the Fund for Mary Washington are essential to meeting the University’s most critical needs in a timely manner by:
- enabling University leaders to respond to opportunities as they arise
- helping advance UMW as a premier public liberal arts and sciences institution
- supporting areas across the University, including faculty programs, alumni events, outreach, publications, and student financial assistance.
With a gift to the Fund for Mary Washington of $2,500 or more ($500 or more for graduates of the last decade), you will become a member of the President’s Council. President’s Council members are invited to special events, and their names are listed on a special donor wall outside of the President’s Office in George Washington Hall.
