Seminar Room Named for Dr. Crawley

Crawley Room DedicationIn September, UMW dedicated the William B. Crawley, Jr. Seminar Room in the newly renovated Monroe Hall. Theresa Young Crawley ’77 and many friends and colleagues made gifts to dedicate the space in commemoration of Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History Crawley’s 40 years of service.  The gifts also funded the William B. Crawley, Jr. Endowment for Student Research.

Charles Reed Jr. Thanks Donors for Opportunities

Charles Reed Jr. with President HurleyCharles Reed Jr. ’11 said scholarships, including the Class of 1942 James Harvey Dodd Scholarship and the Citizenship Award for Diversity Leadership, enabled him to be active in the campus community while pursuing his major in business administration. He offered his appreciation to alumni, parents, and friends during UMW’s annual Scholarship Donor Appreciation Luncheon at the Jepson Alumni Executive Center.

Despite devotion to his studies and his enthusiastic participation in numerous committee and student leadership activities, he nearly missed his own graduation. He was riding the PBS “American Experience” bus from Washington, D.C., to New Orleans. President Hurley led a special ceremony for Charles when the bus stopped at Mary Washington the following day.

AT&T Makes Gift to Support Student Leadership

J. Michael Schweder, president of AT&T Mid Atlantic, visited campus to present a $25,000 check for establishment of the AT&T Student Leadership Colloquium. As part of the UMW Center for Honor, Leadership, and Service, the new AT&T Student Leadership Colloquium will provide a robust series of classroom and experiential learning opportunities to accelerate students’ personal growth and their leadership abilities. Overall, the program will help enrich the UMW experience and reinforce and sustain the Honor Code as a way of life on the UMW campus and in the lives of our students after they graduate.
